Methyl Bromide Alternatives Outreach (MBAO)

The Methyl Bromide Alternatives Outreach (MBAO) conference is an essential gathering focused on the critical transition away from the use of methyl bromide, a significant fumigant in agriculture and forestry that was phased out under the Clean Air Act and Montreal Protocol as of January 1, 2005. This event serves as a platform for researchers, growers, and stakeholders from governmental, academic, and private sectors to share findings and advancements in developing economically viable and environmentally friendly alternatives to this chemical.

Since its inception in 1994, the MBAO conference has attracted over 400 participants, including notable international attendees, fostering a collaborative environment for discussing ongoing research and technology transfer related to methyl bromide alternatives.

The conference will feature a range of concurrent sessions that delve into research focused on alternatives to methyl bromide for various applications such as preplant, post-harvest, and structural uses. In addition to these sessions, there will be Focused Discussion segments that allow for in-depth exploration of specific issues, providing ample time for participant interaction and dialogue.

Attendees can expect updates on the international landscape regarding methyl bromide usage, alongside discussions pertaining to specific regional issues, particularly in California and Florida. This event is pivotal for anyone involved in agricultural research and practices, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts toward sustainable alternatives.
