Food Independence Summit

Join us for the Food Independence Summit at Timbercrest Camp and RV Park in Walnut Creek, Ohio, where the focus is on self-sufficiency, homegrown food, and healthy living. This year's event marks the 6th annual homesteading conference, welcoming both seasoned homesteaders and newcomers eager to learn about home canning and other sustainable practices. Attendees can expect two days filled with expert speakers, hands-on workshops, and practical strategies designed to empower individuals towards greater independence and resilience in their lifestyles.

The event features a variety of engaging workshops, such as 'Bake with Whole Grain Sourdough: Scones, Crackers and Pancakes,' where participants will learn to mill fresh whole grains and work with sourdough starter to create delicious baked goods. Each participant will take home their sourdough starter and recipe booklet, ensuring they can continue their journey of culinary exploration at home.

Additionally, families can enjoy the 'Build Your Own Bluebird Box' workshop, where attendees aged 8 and above will craft their own bluebird boxes while acquiring basic woodworking skills. This hands-on experience promotes engagement with nature and wildlife conservation.

Young participants can also take part in the 'Kids Can Can: Blueberries in a Jar' workshop led by Sarah Thrush of Pealies & Petals, introducing them to safe home canning practices. They will leave with a jar of blueberries and a certificate of completion, instilling confidence and foundational skills in food preservation. For those interested in pottery, a workshop led by Grace Murray invites attendees to create custom ceramic mugs, which will be professionally glazed and shipped to their homes.

In the realm of leatherworking, participants can craft a minimalist leather card holder, learning essential techniques for future projects. For those interested in poultry processing, John Moody will guide attendees through the humane harvesting of chickens, providing practical skills and confidence to process poultry independently.

The summit also hosts enlightening morning sit-down sessions featuring notable speakers such as Del Bigtree, Julian Douwes, and Kelly McKenna, followed by a delicious Amish-style lunch prepared by a local Amish family. The afternoon features a variety of workshops and exhibitions showcasing products and services related to self-sufficiency and homesteading. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore different exhibitors and learn from experts in the field.

We appreciate our sponsors who have made this event possible and invite everyone to join us for an enriching experience that promotes food independence and traditional homesteading skills.
