About
Food IndustryThe Workshop of the IOBC-Global MRQA Working Group is a significant event aimed at innovating the rearing of high-quality invertebrates, particularly focusing on entomophagous and phytophagous insects, entomopathogenic nematodes, and other invertebrates used in pest management, food production, and various applications. This workshop, organized by the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre, will take place in Tucson, Arizona, although it has been postponed to October 2026 due to the challenges faced by members and invited speakers in securing funding and travel approvals. The postponement aims to ensure a robust participation from attendees, thereby enhancing the collaborative spirit of the workshop. The workshop will feature a comprehensive program consisting of symposia centered around current “hot topics,” alongside invited and submitted presentations and posters focusing on mass rearing and quality assurance. The discussions will be designed to foster collaboration among scientists and practitioners, with topics including the mass rearing of biological control agents for crop pests, mass rearing for Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) and other autocidal pest control methods, quality assessment of biological control products, as well as mass rearing of insects for food and feed. An open session on rearing invertebrates will also be included, encouraging an exchange of ideas and practices within the field. The overarching aim of this workshop is to promote environmentally safe methods of pest and disease control, as championed by the International Organisation for Biological Control (IOBC).
