The Iowa Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer Program provides a dynamic platform for young farmers in Iowa, aged 18 to 35, to connect, learn, and lead in the agricultural sector. This initiative caters to full-time and part-time farmers, individuals working in the agriculture industry, and those passionate about agriculture. The program emphasizes leadership and networking opportunities, enabling members to establish meaningful connections and actively participate in the Farm Bureau and the broader agricultural community. Through a variety of conferences, educational events, and recognition programs, participants access cutting-edge information and celebrate their achievements while fostering both personal and professional growth.A standout feature of the program is its emphasis on innovation and excellence within the agricultural field. For instance, young Iowa entrepreneurs with innovative ag-related businesses are recognized through awards, with past winners including Natalie Paino from Hightail, Rachel Irwin from Bushels and Blooms, and Jennifer Twaiten-Kraninger from Little Sioux Stems. The YF Leadership Award, honoring Bob Joslin, recognizes young farmers for their contributions to the Farm Bureau and agriculture. Winners receive significant benefits, including a $2,000 grant to a local organization, a cash award, and expenses paid trips to major agricultural conventions. The honorees for 2025 include Blake Anderson, Randall Francois, and Devon Murray, while Keaton Keitzer from Des Moines County is recognized as the 2025 winner.The program also hosts the Discussion Meet, a competitive event designed to enhance discussion skills among young farmers. Participants engage in free-form discussions on pressing agricultural issues, simulating a collaborative effort to reach consensus and solve problems. Contestants are judged based on their cooperative attitude, problem-solving capabilities, delivery, and analysis of the topic. The 2025 Discussion Meet recognized Keaton Keitzer as the first-place winner, with other top finalists including Molly Dolch, Coltin Schachtner Kramer, and Alyssa Yoder McClary. The subsequent 2026 Discussion Meet featured semi-finalists who received coaching to prepare for the final rounds, with the Iowa winner advancing to the national competition at the 2027 American Farm Bureau Annual Convention in Charlotte, NC. This rich array of activities underscores the Iowa Farm Bureau’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders.
