Washington DC Professional Preparation Program

The Washington DC Professional Preparation Program is an enriching initiative hosted by The University of Alabama, aimed at preparing students for the competitive professional landscape. This program is specifically designed for students who seek to enhance their career readiness and gain valuable insights into opportunities available in government and other unique sectors in Washington, D.C. Participants engage in a series of comprehensive sessions that cover crucial topics such as resume development, interview skills, business etiquette, dressing for success, and effective job search strategies. These sessions aim not only to equip students with essential skills but also to foster their professional ambitions and expand their networks through exposure to professionals and UA alumni.The program includes an immersive trip to Washington, D.C., during spring break, where students partake in various activities such as briefings from government and non-profit organizations, meetings with elected officials, and informational interviews with professionals in fields aligned with their career interests. Additionally, the itinerary features networking opportunities with UA alumni, tours of historic landmarks, and discussions on cultural and religious issues, providing a well-rounded experience of life in the capital city. All students from the College of Arts and Sciences at UA are encouraged to apply, provided they maintain good academic standing. Participants are responsible for transportation, accommodation, and meal expenses, estimated at around $1500, with the program itself incurring no additional participation fees. Prior to the trip, students must attend a mandatory 'Ready to Roll' session, including a Professional Prep 101 training, which serves to build foundational skills in networking, presenting oneself professionally, and navigating the job market.
