Virtual Transplant Surgery Interest Group: Session Four

The Virtual Transplant Surgery Interest Group: Session Four is an innovative educational initiative designed to provide resources and opportunities for medical students, particularly those studying at institutions without a transplant surgery program. This program aims to bridge the gap in access to transplant surgery education and mentorship by introducing participants to prominent leaders in the field. Participants will have the rare chance to enter the operating room virtually, where they can watch procedures unfold while the operating surgeon provides commentary, explains each step, and addresses questions in real time. This interactive approach not only enhances the learning experience but also fosters a deeper understanding of transplant surgery techniques and practices.In addition to the live surgery component, the session will feature various resources and information about the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) 2027 Winter Symposium, including session proposals and exhibitor and sponsor information. Participants will also learn about specialized educational opportunities such as Kidney and Liver Financial Bootcamps, the Surgeon Scientist Career Development Conference, and the ATP Certificate of Educational Achievement. Furthermore, the session will discuss important topics related to living organ donation and the standards for photography and documentation of recovered organs.
