The Workshop on Innovative Nanoscale Devices and Systems

The Workshop on Innovative Nanoscale Devices and Systems (WINDS 2026) is set to take place at the Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection in Waimea, United States. This interactive international workshop aims to delve into the fundamental properties of nanoscale heterostructures and their potential applications in various devices. The workshop will be structured with morning and evening sessions, allowing participants ample time in the afternoons for informal meetings to foster extended interactions and discussions. It originated from the successful Advanced Heterostructures Workshop, emphasizing the significance of 2D and 1D materials and van der Waals heterostructures.Key topics that will be discussed at WINDS 2026 include wide-bandgap and emerging semiconductor materials and devices, emergent interface phenomena like novel two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) systems, and the exploration of proximity effects. Additionally, the workshop will examine technologies beyond CMOS, focusing on materials and devices that are ultra-scaled. Quantum science will also be a significant focus, particularly in areas such as topology, chirality, computation, and sensing. Other notable themes encompass spintronics, which deals with materials and spin-based phenomena, as well as the roles of AI, machine learning, neuromorphic computing, and neural networks in advancing nanoscale technology. The workshop will also cover oxide and multiferroic materials and systems, energy conversion and harvesting with advanced concepts, and the application of low-dimensional materials and heterostructures for nanoelectronics. Prominent speakers include Alexander Balandin from the University of California, Los Angeles, László Forró from the University of Notre Dame, and Igor Zutic from the University at Buffalo, among others.
