The State of Hispanics – Data Summit & Business Expo is a premier event organized by the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, specifically designed to highlight the significant influence and economic contributions of the Hispanic community in the Houston area. The event aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among these key stakeholders, emphasizing the critical role that Hispanics play in the regional economy.The summit features notable speakers including Dr. Jeronimo Cortina, Associate Director and Associate Professor at the Center for Mexican American Studies at the University of Houston, who will present on the 2024 Texas Trends and discuss the Economic Impact of Latinos in Houston. Also speaking is Pablo Pinto, Director of the Center for Public Policy at the Hobby School of Public Affairs, University of Houston, who will address the topic of 'The State of Hispanics in Houston' and delve into the Economic Impact of DACA. The event seeks to provide valuable insights into the Hispanic demographic, which currently spends over $54 billion annually, with projections indicating that this figure could exceed $80 billion by 2022, accounting for more than 25% of the region's total spending. Notably, more than 53% of Hispanic residents in the area are homeowners, reinforcing their considerable stake in the local residential market. Additionally, Hispanics are recognized for their entrepreneurial spirit, being twice as likely to start a business compared to other demographic groups, and they contribute to 25% of all auto sales within the region. Furthermore, Hispanic-owned small businesses comprise over 42% of all small businesses in the area, showcasing the community's robust presence in the business landscape.
