Sight Savers America's Hero For Sight Event is an annual celebration that showcases the dedication and contributions of Alabama’s eye care community, alongside corporate and community leaders from across the state. This esteemed event aims to raise awareness of the vital work undertaken by Sight Savers America while also honoring the recipient of the Hall W award. The primary focus is on fundraising efforts that support the organization's mission: to identify and address the eye care needs of children, from their first pair of eyeglasses to comprehensive sight-saving treatments such as surgeries and advanced vision aids for those suffering from severe visual impairments.Since its inception in 2014, the Hero for Sight Event has become a hallmark of community engagement and recognition in the field of children’s eye care. The event not only celebrates the achievements of individuals or organizations that have made significant and lasting impacts in this area but also serves as a platform for raising critical funds for Sight Savers America’s initiatives. The 2027 edition of this impactful event will take place at The Club in Birmingham, Alabama. One notable feature of the event is the tribute wall established at the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital, which honors the Hero for Sight Award recipient through a unique display of artwork created by an artist with severe visual impairment. This wall symbolizes both the mission of Sight Savers America and its ongoing commitment to improving children’s vision in Alabama.
