Rural Sociological Society Annual Meeting

The Rural Sociological Society Annual Meeting is a premier event that gathers scholars, students, practitioners, and policy professionals focused on the social dynamics of rural life. Taking place at The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center, the meeting serves as a crucial platform for sharing research, exchanging ideas, and forging collaborations aimed at advancing the field of rural sociology.

This year’s theme emphasizes advocacy for justice within rural communities, discussing critical issues like food justice, environmental justice, and spatial inequalities that affect rural populations. The event encourages participants to engage in robust discussions regarding what constitutes justice for rural America, linking rural sociology with legal scholarship to address the challenges faced by these communities.

Attendees can expect a dynamic program featuring field trips, networking opportunities, a presidential address, and various panel discussions. The event will also include dedicated programming for students and emerging scholars, such as poster sessions and mentoring opportunities. Participants are invited to present their research, engage with current studies, and receive feedback from peers who share a commitment to addressing rural issues.

The meeting also fosters interdisciplinary collaborations by welcoming insights from other fields, such as economics and the humanities, to enhance the understanding of justice and sustainability in rural contexts. The Annual Meeting is more than just a series of sessions; it is a gathering of individuals united in their goal to shape the future of rural communities through rigorous research and dialogue.

This event promises to leave attendees with new ideas, lasting connections, and a profound sense of belonging to a community committed to rural well-being.
