Placental and Gestational Trophoblastic Pathology for General Pathologists: How to Keep Calm and Carry On

The event titled Placental and Gestational Trophoblastic Pathology for General Pathologists: How to Keep Calm and Carry On is organized by the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) and will take place at their venue in Palm Springs, United States. This course is co-directed by esteemed professionals Jonathan L. Hecht, MD, PhD, and Joseph T. Rabban, MD, MPH, both of whom are recognized members of USCAP and practicing pathologists. The course aims to provide a practical approach for general pathologists in recognizing and reporting clinically relevant alterations of the placenta, as well as gestational trophoblastic disease.Attendees will engage with the 2014 Amsterdam Placental Workshop Group classifications, focusing on the evaluation and reporting of placental pathology. Participants will learn to identify and report critical placental alterations that may impact patient care and trigger further workup of both the mother and baby. The course will also cover the recognition of morphologic indications of gestational trophoblastic disease, along with the selection and interpretation of relevant confirmatory diagnostic tests. The event will feature a 30-minute Slide Preview session, during which participants will review glass slides at individual microscopes, followed by a Case Discussion at a multiheaded teaching microscope. This structured approach will enhance the learning experience, providing attendees with the skills necessary to handle common alterations of clinical significance as well as contemporary topics such as COVID-related pathology and the FIGO grading system for placenta accreta spectrum.
