Open Your Heart: Practical Approaches to Cardiovascular Pathology

The 'Open Your Heart: Practical Approaches to Cardiovascular Pathology' course is an interactive educational experience designed for pathologists, particularly focusing on cardiovascular pathology. Directed by Chieh-Yu Lin, MD, PhD, a member of the USCAP and a practicing pathologist, this course offers participants the opportunity to engage deeply with the subject matter. The course is structured to be informative and hands-on, allowing participants to interact with six dedicated and experienced cardiovascular pathologists. Together, they will explore common yet easily missed cardiovascular disease entities, including valvular diseases, vasculitis, sudden cardiac death, and amyloidosis.Participants will learn to integrate various aspects of pathology, including gross examination, microscopic findings, imaging correlation, ancillary testing, and clinical information to arrive at accurate diagnoses. The course covers four major fields in cardiovascular pathology: cardiac tumors, myocardial diseases, valvular diseases, and vascular diseases. By the conclusion of this course, attendees will have enhanced their knowledge and diagnostic skills across a broad spectrum of cardiovascular diseases. The course also features a 30-minute Slide Preview session, in which participants review glass slides at individual microscopes for 90 seconds each before passing them to the next attendee. Following this, participants will engage in Case Discussions using a multiheaded teaching microscope. This course represents a collaboration between the Society for Cardiovascular Pathology (SCVP) and the USCAP, ensuring a comprehensive and expert-led educational experience.
