The NRECA Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) program is a comprehensive three-part educational initiative designed for cooperative directors, taking place at the Minnesota Rural Electric Association in Maple Grove, United States. This program consists of five essential courses focused on fundamental governance knowledge and the critical skills needed by cooperative directors. Upon successful completion of all five CCD courses, participants will be awarded the Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate by the NRECA, with the opportunity to pursue the Board Leadership Certificate thereafter.The first course, 'Director Duties and Liabilities', provides an in-depth look at the responsibilities of directors, emphasizing the importance of loyalty, obedience, and due care. Participants will gain insights into the legal and regulatory aspects that govern public utilities, as well as key legal documents like articles of incorporation and bylaws. The second course, 'Understanding the Electric Business', delves into the evolving nature of the electric utility industry, focusing on the essential components that ensure reliability, quality, and safety. This course also covers current and emerging technologies impacting utility operations and addresses issues related to distributed generation that boards may encounter.The third course, 'Board Operations and Process', is crucial for understanding the legal requirements surrounding board meetings and the dynamics that contribute to productive discussions. This course will help directors identify key individuals and groups essential for effective governance while exploring how public officials and opinion leaders can influence cooperative dynamics. Each course is priced at $773 for non-members, and the event is designed to foster a safe and welcoming environment for all participants, adhering to the MREA Event Code of Conduct.
