OtherNarrative Threads is an exhibition that showcases hand-crafted works related to the book form, emphasizing the use of fibers, both natural and synthetic, as the primary element. This event will take place at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The exhibition is open to any artist aged 18 years or older who resides and works in the United States. Submissions can include a wide array of works, from traditional fiber techniques such as weaving, stitchery, knitting, and crochet, to mixed-media pieces that incorporate digital outputs, provided that fiber techniques and materials are evident. Artists are allowed to submit a maximum of two works, and the selections will be made by the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery, Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, Associate Dean of Research and Engagement.The entry fee for this exhibit is $18 for each submission, with discounted rates available for students, artists facing economic hardships, and those identifying as BIPOC or part of the LGBTQIA+ community. All submissions must be completed online, requiring 2-6 images per work, and optionally, video links to assist jurors in understanding the artwork. The exhibition will feature an online catalog and will retain a 40% commission on any works sold during the event. Insurance during transit is the responsibility of the artist, and submission implies agreement to the conditions outlined in the prospectus. The exhibition will highlight the creativity and diversity of artistic interpretations of the book form through fiber art.
