The course titled Modern Surgical Pathology Through the Expert Eyes of APSS-USCAP: Seventh is a collaborative educational initiative between the Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists (APSS) and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP). This program is specifically tailored for practicing pathologists and is set to take place at the USCAP's international headquarters located in vibrant Palm Springs, California. The course is designed to address critical gaps in diagnostic surgical pathology, particularly focusing on the evaluation of complex cases that pose challenges in everyday practice.The program will feature expert insights from course co-directors, including Anne M. Jones, MD, who is an active member of USCAP and a practicing pathologist. Participants will engage in an interactive curriculum that includes a variety of topics such as the evaluation for invasion in genitourinary biopsies, differentiating benign processes from intraepithelial neoplasia in breast samples, and classifying inflammatory conditions within the gastrointestinal tract. Additionally, the course will delve into the differential diagnoses of gynecologic and soft tissue tumors, aiming to equip attendees with strategies to minimize diagnostic errors. The educational approach emphasizes both routine microscopic examination and the role of immunohistochemistry, along with the discussion of adjunctive molecular tests where applicable.The structure of the course includes a unique Slide Preview session where participants will have the opportunity to review glass slides individually under microscopes for a limited time before discussing cases in a collaborative setting using a multiheaded teaching microscope.
