Ls GreenLink's New Hvdc Undersea Cable Manufacturing Plant

LS GreenLink is set to establish a new high-voltage direct current (HVDC) undersea cable manufacturing plant in Chesapeake, Virginia, which is expected to significantly boost the U.S. offshore wind industry and create numerous jobs. As the demand for offshore wind energy grows, this facility will play a crucial role in the efficient production of the undersea cables necessary to connect wind farms to onshore grids. The plant is projected to begin operations by the third quarter of 2027, with groundbreaking anticipated around the time of the upcoming IPF event in Virginia Beach. The facility will feature a remarkable VCV tower, standing 660 feet tall, making it the tallest building in Virginia and a notable structure in the region. The company has already secured a 100-acre site for the plant and is currently navigating the permitting process required at various levels of government. The investment in this facility is substantial, with a total project cost expected to exceed $680 million, which includes a $99 million tax credit from the Inflation Reduction Act.
