Iota Short Forms Conference

The Iota Short Forms Conference, hosted at Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake, United States, is a vibrant gathering aimed at writers looking to delve into the art of short prose writing. Established in 2013, this conference has evolved to include a variety of workshops and discussions focused on multiple genres such as essays, prose poems, short stories, flash fiction, and micro essays.

This year's event is presented in partnership with the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance (MWPA), emphasizing the collaborative spirit that has fueled the conference's growth over the years. Attendees can expect to engage in multi-genre generative workshops led by Iota faculty and the MWPA staff, providing a platform for both new and seasoned writers to cultivate their craft.

Under the direction of Penny Guisinger, the founder of Iota, and co-director Suzanne Strempek Shea, the conference aims to plant the seeds for a variety of literary projects. Participants will have the opportunity to receive feedback on pre-submitted work through optional sessions, enhancing their writing journey. Notable speakers include award-winning authors such as Paige Crutcher and Lewis Robinson, who will share their expertise and insights into the writing process.

The conference offers a unique chance to foster creativity in a supportive environment, encouraging participants to take risks and share their personal narratives. In addition to the workshops, attendees can join the optional five-day retreat that follows the conference, allowing for continued writing and exploration of the beautiful surroundings. Heartwood Lodge provides comfortable accommodations and communal spaces for collaboration, making it an ideal setting for writers looking to connect and grow in their craft.
