GLIMUN Conference

The Great Lakes Invitational Model United Nations (GLIMUN) Conference is a prestigious high school event that serves as a four-day simulation of a single session of the United Nations. This flagship conference is designed to provide an enriching experience for both novice and experienced delegates, making it an ideal introduction to Model United Nations (MUN) for first-timers and a robust training opportunity for seasoned participants. Taking place at the Radisson Plaza Hotel at Kalamazoo Center in Kalamazoo, United States, GLIMUN occurs early in the MUN conference year, strategically positioned right after Thanksgiving, thereby preparing delegates for the busy spring conference months ahead.GLIMUN features a balanced mix of General Assembly (GA) and Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) committees, with GA committees hosting approximately 70 delegates and ECOSOC committees slightly smaller, comprising about 50 to 60 delegates. This carefully curated committee size allows for an engaging environment where diverse ideas can flourish while ensuring that each delegate has ample opportunity to be recognized on the general speakers' list. The conference aims to facilitate an environment where advisors can effectively assess their delegates based on participation, preparation, and skill. The committee sizes are intentionally designed for both advisors and staff to observe and evaluate the delegates' engagement during both caucus and formal debate sessions. Throughout the conference, delegates participate in committee debates and come together in a plenary session, culminating in a Closing Ceremony that honors outstanding individual performances and the achievements of full delegations. Evening activities are also provided, allowing for networking and further interaction among delegates.
