GAIT: Functional Gait

The GAIT: Functional Gait course is an intensive 2.5-day training designed for physical therapists and rehabilitation professionals focusing on the assessment and treatment of gait dysfunctions in patients. This advanced course builds on foundational skills from previous IPA courses and emphasizes a comprehensive understanding of the biomechanical principles that govern gait. Participants will engage in self-evaluation, partner assessments, and treatment strategies, incorporating techniques such as Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), CoreFirst strategies, and Functional Mobilization (FM). By the end of the course, attendees will be equipped with the manual and observational skills necessary to accurately analyze and treat gait dysfunctions in both lab partners and video assessments.Throughout the course, participants will also learn how to assess the mechanical and neuromuscular impairments contributing to inefficient gait patterns, facilitating more effective mobilization and re-education treatments. The training includes supervised lab practice sessions where participants will demonstrate their ability to instruct patients on appropriate home programs. Guided discussions about current evidence for gait assessment and treatment will further enhance the learning experience. The course is approved for continuing education credits for physical therapists in New York, Illinois, and California, with provisions for other states.
