Delaware Youth Environmental Summit

The Delaware Youth Environmental Summit, known as YES!, is an inspiring and empowering event designed specifically for high school students in Delaware who are passionate about environmental protection. This statewide summit invites all Delaware high school students, including those attending schools outside the state, as well as students from public, parochial, private, or home schools within Delaware. The inaugural summit took place in 2020 in Dover, drawing in over 270 students from 17 high schools, and has since grown significantly. The 2026 event witnessed participation from more than 675 students representing over 40 high schools across Delaware, showcasing the increasing engagement of young individuals in environmental issues. Planning is now underway for the eighth annual summit to be held in 2027, furthering the mission of empowering youth in advocacy for our planet.This event is a collaborative effort involving various Delaware nonprofit organizations, educators, agencies, businesses, and students who are dedicated to making a positive impact. The summit is offered at no cost to all participating students, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder involvement. Volunteers are always welcomed to assist in organizing the summit, and student leaders have the opportunity to apply each spring to join the planning team for the following year. The support from community members—whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness—is crucial to making the YES! summit a reality. Notable figures involved in the previous event include Maria Cabrera from Wilmington City Council, Stephanie Trainer from Charter School of Wilmington, and Sherri Evans-Stanton, the former Executive Director of Sierra Club Delaware. The summit embodies the belief that 'we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children,' and aims to equip Delaware's youth with the necessary skills and tools to foster greater environmental stewardship. The organizers invite generous donors and sponsors to contribute to the success of the Delaware Youth Environmental Summit, enhancing its reach and ensuring more students can attend at no cost.
