With over 30 years of history, this conference has evolved from a modest gathering of legal professionals to a significant event drawing approximately 1,200 participants annually, including educators, child welfare workers, judges, lawyers, juvenile justice personnel, advocates, resource families, young people, lawmakers, and others dedicated to improving the welfare of children and families. The CLI is recognized for delivering the latest legal information, best practices, and trends in child welfare and juvenile justice, creating essential networking opportunities for attendees.This annual event is organized through a collaborative effort led by the Children’s Court Improvement Commission of the New Mexico Supreme Court. It is sponsored by several esteemed organizations, including the Center of Innovation at New Mexico State University, the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) Protective Service and Juvenile Justice Divisions, the UNM Corinne Wolfe Center for Child and Family Justice, the Rozier E. Sanchez Judicial Education Center, NM CASA, and various community organizations. The CLI fosters a trauma-informed approach and enhances practice skills, ensuring that participants can deepen their service to children and youth with empathy and compassion. In addition to the in-person conference, CLI is introducing a series of virtual workshops aimed at past attendees and community members, promoting continuous learning and skill development throughout the year. The conference also features the Child Welfare & Juvenile Justice Excellence Awards, celebrating outstanding contributions and leadership within the field, with honorees recognized for their dedication and integrity.
