Capitol Graduate Research Summit

The Capitol Graduate Research Summit is a significant event that showcases the impactful research conducted by graduate students from various universities in Kansas. Students selected from the University of Kansas (KU) Lawrence campus will join peers from Kansas State University, The University of Kansas Medical Center, Pittsburg State University, Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, and Wichita State University to present their research to legislators and members of the state government. This prestigious event takes place at the Kansas State Capitol Visitor Center in Topeka, providing a unique platform for graduate students to enhance their communication skills and engage with state leaders and policymakers.Participating students will present their research in a poster format, focusing on how their work impacts and benefits the state of Kansas, specifically highlighting economic and community development. The event encourages students to articulate their research clearly to non-specialist audiences, thereby bridging the gap between academia and public understanding. Participants in the Capitol Graduate Research Summit will also have the opportunity to gain recognition through the CGRS Award Ceremony, where top presenters are awarded a certificate and a monetary award of $500. Furthermore, all participants will be acknowledged in social media promotions and news releases, enhancing their visibility.To prepare for the summit, selected students are required to attend professional development workshops that include sessions on poster design basics and strategies for effectively communicating research to a general audience.
