About
Industrial & InfrastructureCanstruction is an innovative nationwide program that focuses on raising awareness about hunger through creative means. In Washington, DC, the event is organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation and serves as a unique design-build competition that directly benefits the Capital Area Food Bank through the donation of canned goods. Participants include teams from various architecture and design firms based in Washington, DC, who utilize their creative skills to construct sculptures made entirely out of cans of food. These artistic creations are prominently displayed for a week in the Great Hall of the National Building Museum. The sculptures are not only a testament to creativity and engineering but also serve a significant purpose. After the exhibition, the nutritious, shelf-stable food used in the sculptures is donated to the Capital Area Food Bank for distribution to individuals and families in need. This event is made possible thanks to generous sponsorship from key organizations including the Capital Area Food Bank, the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, Giant, the National Building Museum, and the Washington Architectural Foundation.
