Apprentice Lineworker Program - Class Graduation

The Apprentice Lineworker Program, offered by the Northeast Public Power Association (NEPPA), is a comprehensive four-year curriculum designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel as linemen. This program includes the Northwest Lineman College’s Lineworker Certification Program, which combines hands-on training with formal classroom instruction. Students are required to attend classes four times a year for four days each, and they must be employed at a public power utility or contractor, with a minimum age of 18 prior to the program's commencement. Throughout the program, participants are expected to engage in self-study, submit monthly apprenticeship reports documenting their on-the-job training, and quarterly competency forms. A highlight of the program is the annual Skills Assessment Rodeo, which showcases the apprentices' developing technical and climbing skills while emphasizing safety and professionalism.The program features a robust curriculum that covers various topics over the four years, including safety protocols, electrical systems fundamentals, underground and overhead conductors, and advanced transformer studies. Students also receive training in vegetation management, system automation, and crew leadership, among other areas.
