The Annual sySTEMnow Conference is set to take place at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee, a prestigious event dedicated to advancing STEM education and workforce development. This year’s theme, Ignite the Spark: Growing STEM from Curiosity to Career, celebrates the journey of STEM discovery, beginning with early curiosity and extending through education, training, and professional careers. The conference aims to bring together a diverse group of students, educators, industry professionals, and community leaders to explore effective strategies for igniting interest, fostering engagement, and creating sustainable pathways in STEM fields. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit session proposals that showcase classroom innovations, community partnerships, or industry insights, thus contributing to the conversation on the future of STEM in Wisconsin.In addition to numerous breakout sessions, the conference will feature prominent keynote speakers, including Nehemiah Mabry, P.E., a structural engineer and award-winning educator known for his engaging approach to making STEM relatable and inspiring. He will address how to break down stereotypes and celebrate innovation in STEM fields. Another key speaker, Tara, recognized as a pioneer in empowering young tech innovators, will share her insights on how to ignite curiosity and confidence in the next generation of STEM leaders. Various sessions will cover topics such as the intersection of creativity and STEM, the role of Employee Resource Groups in powering the STEM talent pipeline, and the impact of artificial intelligence on STEM careers. The conference will also honor excellence in STEM through the Excellence in STEM Awards, known as the Stemmys, which recognize educational institutions, businesses, organizations, and individuals who have significantly promoted STEM awareness. Award categories include Education, Individual, Employer, and Partnership. Participating schools like Pathways High are redefining education with project-based learning, allowing students to earn certifications and college credit while gaining hands-on experience in coding and robotics. Meanwhile, Clarios, through its STEM outreach group EXTND, engages students from K-12 to college with real-world STEM experiences and mentorship opportunities, showcasing their commitment to inspiring the next generation of innovators. Waukesha County Technical College, a leader in STEM education, prepares students for careers in Wisconsin's innovation economy with over 35 STEM programs and a notable employment rate for graduates.Sarah, a key figure in developing hands-on STEM programs, has expanded equitable access to education through partnerships and innovative initiatives. The conference will also feature a K-12 student display showcasing exceptional STEM projects from local schools, further emphasizing the commitment to fostering creativity and engagement in STEM among young learners.
