Advanced ASOS School

The Advanced ASOS School is a specialized training event designed for individuals who have a foundational understanding of airport operations, specifically those who have attended a previous ASOS school or have relevant experience such as undergoing FAA Certification Inspections. This event will take place in Washington DC and is aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of participants through a hands-on, collaborative approach. Unlike traditional schools with extensive lectures, this program emphasizes group problem-solving exercises related to Part 139, encouraging active participation and discussion among attendees. Participants will have the opportunity to apply their understanding of 14 CFR Part 139, utilize knowledge gained from the Basic ASOS School, and leverage their practical experience to tackle various airport operational case studies. Networking opportunities with airport operators and industry professionals will be integral to the event, allowing attendees to share best management practices and learn new operational techniques that they can implement at their own airports. The training is compliant with the requirements of 139.303(c-e), ensuring that attendees meet necessary regulatory standards while gaining valuable insights into emergency responses at airports. The event will feature distinguished speaker James “Jim” Nilo, a seasoned expert in airport operations and safety. With a career that began in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Crash Fire Rescue crewman, Jim has extensive experience in public safety and airport management. He has held several pivotal roles, including Fire Chief at Richmond International Airport and regional training manager with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, and has contributed significantly to ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting) training development. Jim is also the founding partner of JRN Consulting, where he advises on airport operations and emergency services. Attendees can expect a robust learning environment, and should prepare for an interactive experience with both audio and video capabilities.
